Former UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali claimed water will be more important than oil this century. Our demand for water is increasing, yet the amount available doesn’t. Ariel understands this issue and has taken many initiatives to ensure less water is used at every level.

So Ariel use as little water as possible in manufacturing. More importantly, we look at ways to help you in saving water every day.

Ariel Saving Water

Ariel demonstrated outstanding results in fully loaded machines, launching campaigns to show our users how adding a couple of extra items to each wash can save you water. Over a year this can save you, and the environment, a lot. Just make sure you do not overfill. Leave a hand’s gap between the dirty laundry and the top of your drum for best results.

Ariel also demonstrated brilliant cleaning in just one wash, showing our users that they never need to rewash, saving more water.

Worldwide initiatives

Yet at Ariel, we understand that isn’t enough. With less than 1% of the world’s water supply safe for drinking, billions of people the world over suffer without fresh drinking water, every day. One of the campaigns launched by P&G is the Children’s Safe Drinking Water program. This has delivered more than 2 billion liters of clean, safe drinking water to developing countries and at times of natural disaster.

P&G have also partnered with the Human Needs Project to launch a clean technology facility in one of the largest slums in Africa.

The community pilot project, in Kenya’s Kibera slum, will provide240,000 liters of clean water every day, with 15 new toilets, 25 showers, 5 hand washing sinks, 2 washing machines and 2 tumble dryers.

The center also has a water borehole to provide drinking water and the center is completely self-sustaining. The pump for the well is powered by solar panels.

Initiatives like this are vital for people across the developing world, but at Ariel, we also aim to do our bit for our consumers in the developed world. We work with washing machine manufacturers to develop more efficient laundry processes, both with new machines and better laundry detergents, such as New Ariel Power Gel.
